He’s not in the bedroom
He’s not on the bed
He’s not sprawled out
On the bamboo bedspread

He’s not on the sofa
Watching TV
Not curled up
Where he should be

He’s not in the kitchen
With his kingly air
Keeping an eye
On what happens there

And when I sit
On the loo to pee
Where are his footsteps
Checking in on me?

He’s not on the patio
Impressing our guests
So charming, so handsome
Looking his best

He’s not striking a pose
Not rolling his eyes
No trademark smile
No knowing sighs

He’s not in the garden
In the sun, getting brown
Not chasing Whats
Not up, or down

He’s not there at night
When I contort to make room
But still I curl up
For the space he’d assume

I don’t know where it is that he’s gone.
But he’s not here with me, where he belongs.

Lucky was the bravest, kindest, wisest, and funniest.
He was our prince and our friend.
We were always going to lose him too soon.
